Hopefully after I get everything to work together. According to an email I got from TigerDirect, the order was placed on 10/12/2014.

I would think that with all the back and forth about this problem, they would extend their return policies.

I can only hope. Actually, the CPU was delivered to the distributor today, so I'm hoping to have a replacement by Wednesday and a working system shortly after. BTW my new keyboard also arrived today.

That would cost them too much. Quality services and products are figments of past imaginations.
If it's one of those angled ergonomic boards you can keep it - I hate those things.

I got the Blu-ray burner as a semi-permanent backup device but even 25GB isn't really all that much any more. I was going to put the 500GB SSD as a secondary drive but, after reading more about the motherboard, I think I will make it the primary and put the OS on it. Will not only make for faster boot and wake-from-sleep but will also enable me to easily switch to a different OS if I so desire.

I remember when I bought my first system with a four hundred MB hard drive. I was convinced that I was set for years because the drives at work were mostly 20s with a few 40s thrown in. It lasted almost three years and had to be replaced. They keep finding ways to eat hard drives.

My first system was an Apple ][ with 48K RAM and dual 5¼" 140K SSSD floppies.
I still have an Apple ][e with 768K RAM and a 20MB HD.

I have a Commodore 64 and a 128. But I'm not sure if either one works any more - they've been on a shelf in the testosterone temple for several years. I was only too happy to throw the HP away.

Got my first one in 1977 ... It was either an Apple ][ or a PDP-8.I still have a Dec Tape from when I was taking classes during my undergraduate courses.

Actually, my very first "Computer" was an HP-65. I still have it and it still works. I had ordered an HP-45 but sold it to someone and bought the HP-65 as soon as it came out in 1974 while I was still in college.

Well, the new CPU arrived yesterday, I installed it and ... no change. I then took a rather poor video of the Debug LED's and what was connected to the MB to show the MD OEM. They said to send the board back to them for "testing". The video doesn't show that a VGA monitor, a USB mouse, and a USB keyboard were also attached to the motherboard but nothing else was, not even the fans! The MB was jumpered so if it had power it had to try to boot. The code appears to be "b6" which is not one of the codes listed in the owners/users manual I got with the MB. Another 3 days there, however long it takes them to "test" the MB, and another 3 days back with no guarantee that it will all work together when it gets here. If it doesn't work this time, I'm seriously thinking about sending everything back. I really wanted this system.

It's a shame you can't send them the entire system and have them do what ever they need to do to make it work.

Well the Motherboard came back from MSI the day before we went off to visit with our baby daughter and her family for Thanksgiving. I decided not to even unpack it until we got back.
We got back last night and I've been successfully putting it off until just now. Guess I need to go up and make one more try.

Thanks. I've been taking it really slowly. I'm almost ready to power it up. I just came down to see about registering some components and was checking this site before going back up. Was just called to dinner, so must go.

OK, put it all together again and pressed the power switch and nothing happened! For some reason I then pressed the reset switch and it started to boot!!! I was able to go into the BIOS setup screen and set the boot order, save it and exit. Now I get an error code of A2 and it freezes. Guess the next thing to do is to reset BIOS and see if I can get back in. Why does this system have to be so annoying!

We have lift-off! The new board is working and I am even now installing Windows 8.1 (I know, I was going to use Windows 7 but SOMEONE talked me into using Windows 8 ). The onboard VGA connector is working just fine for the install but I may try to find an HDMI monitor to use with the onboard HDMI connector for better graphics. Once I transfer everything I want from my old Windows XP system, I will probably move the nVidia graphics card over as well ... if I need it. I added a serial port (DB-9 connector) to the back as there was a Com port available. There was also a speaker output, so I added a speaker. Haven't heard a peep out of it yet, so it may have been a futile attempt to add everything I could. There are two USB 2.0 ports on the MB and only one is being used, so I may find an extra USB connector and cable lying around just to have it if I need them. Each connector gives two USB ports. There are only 6 SATA connectors but 10 internal and 3 external bays. Will have to see if I need more than 6 ports. If I do, I'm sure I can add more using an interface card. I am a bit excited (as if you couldn't tell) and must go back up to see how the install is progressing.

Make the old drive a slave and then you can drag and drop - it'll be much faster than trying to copy. If you need an adapter most computer stores will have them and they're not expensive at all. Basically, the adapter will plug into your system via a USB and your new monster will treat it like it's a big thumb drive. But since you are dealing with a newer system that you put together, I suggest you check into system hardening too. It wouldn't do to leave ports open - although a good firewall should take care of that for you.

OK, I moved the system down to my dungeon and I guess I must have scared it into working properly. I've loaded some software onto it, am connected to the Internet, and it "seems" to be quite happy.
Now on to the important stuff, get my Origins account straightened out so I can install and play Dragon Age: Inquisition!
