One of my all-time favorite quotes that I repeat quite often is from Dorothy Parker. "What fresh hell is this?"
It's a good quote - easy to remember and catchy; I often hear it on television shows, or read it in articles and books.
Another quote from Parker that I know and use is "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think." That it's work related (nursery work, not a street corner career choice!) is obvious.
Most other quotes that I like, I read and forget. Like Dorothy. She's got a quote for that too, which I came across the other day...
"I might repeat to myself slowly and soothingly, a list of quotations beautiful from minds profound - if I can remember any of the damn things." ~ Dorothy Parker

Something I recovered from my desk the other day before it was lost for good during The Purge....
Four Things You Can't Recover:
The Stone after the throw. The Work after it's said. The Occasion after it's missed. The Time after it's gone.

LX, during a phone conversation that had nothing to do with food, cliffs, or life-saving heroics, pauses for a minute, and says:
"If ketchup and cheese fell off a cliff and I could only save one, I'd mourn the loss of cheese terribly, but I'd have to go for ketchup."

"At the end of your life you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict, or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent." ~ Barbara Bush (June 8, 1925 - April 17, 2018)

A quote I've always liked is from Albert Einstein. "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." Another one was one my father used to use. I've since discovered it was attributed to Samuel Goldwyn. "I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong."

HA! My kids would say the same about me - they'd say it sarcastically, but they'd definitely say it!

We had lots of sparkling faces on Christmas...resulting in a progression of family quotes.
"Glitter - it's the Christmas wrapping that keeps on giving." ~ BP
"Glitter - it's the herpes of the craft world." ~ LX's Boyfriend
"Glitter - it has the power to destroy relationships." ~ Hubs
Just one gift that LX tied with a glittery ribbon, and there were sparkles everywhere - on us, on the cats, the dog, the floors in probably every room in the house - everything is covered in glitter. Even now, as I type at the kitchen table two days later, and after vacuuming the house yesterday, I look across the kitchen floor and see sparkles.

HA! I should use one of those to find out which one of the Hellions gets into the Christmas tree when no one is watching. You can hear the Christmas ornaments rolling on the hardwood floor, but when you walk into the room, both cats are lounging around with that "What? I didn't do anything" look of innocence on their whiskered faces.

This little poem came up from Vox on my Facebook feed, and it cracked me up. It is now my favorite poem committed to memory. I only wish I could be so eloquent when attempting to write poetry.
Roses are red, Mornings are hard. I suck at poetry. Coffee.

When I was taking "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" out of my book bag yesterday, a slip of paper, probably used as a book marker, fell out of the book. On it is written:
"We were together. I forget the rest." ~ Walt Whitman
It's a beautiful quote, I think, and I drilled it. The quote is actually a paraphrase from a Whitman poem.
The poem "Once I Pass'd Through a Populous City" contains the line "Day by day and night by night we were together — All else has long been forgotten by me".

OMG, Hubs. He snores like a freight train sometimes (other times it's more like a car with a broken muffler). And then there's me - covers on, covers off, on, off, on, off, hot-flashing my way through the night. What a pair we've become in our middle age, one of those "old married couples" that young couples point at and say ' aw, aren't they cute', completely unaware of what's in store for them...
"Newlyweds, these optimistic young bastards, promise to honor and cherish each other through hot flashes and mid-life crises and a cumulative 50-pound weigh gain, until that far-off day when one of them is finally able to rest in peace. You know, because they can't hear the snoring anymore." ~ Jenna McCarthy

It's strange the things you find when you are looking for something else. I was perusing a forum about Chinese motorcycles for my son-in-law and came across two quotes that made me smile.
"Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience." Mark Twain
"Life is not a fairy tale; if you lose your shoe at midnight--you are drunk!"--unknown

No quotes I'm afraid, but seeing as how Stepper has posted it in here I'd just like to wish everyone a Happy New Year as well, think we can reasonably expect it to be better then the one just passed (fingers crossed)
