Very, very cool, X-Virgina, (I've been meaning to get in here and say that). You mentioned the "OxfamUnwrapped Christmas Appeal" prior with the trees. I'm not sure I know what it is. Will you explain?
Leafsoup - good to see you take a break from your schedule and pop in. I'll keep the fire stoked in the studio fireplace so it'll be warm and toasty when you get back from Texas. Hope your trip is a good one.

Thanks Madam P glad you like. OxfamUnwrapped was a major campaign to get people to buy specific things needed by people in developing countries, as christmas presents for friends and family. It was really well presented with gifts in different price ranges like £5-£20, £21-£50, £51-£100 and upwards to fit everyones pocketbook. When you buy a gift you get a card with a magnet with a picture relating to the gift you've bought, which you can give to the person in who's name you've bought the present. If you buy in the name of a group or organisation they also send you a certificate of thanks, like they did for The Whooshite Posse. My pals and I in the London Xena Meetup (we meet monthly to discuss all things Xenite and scare the patrons of the Elusive Camel Pub) are going to do some fundraising this year so that we can try and get one of the big over £500 gifts for next Christmas. Here's the link for the website. www.oxfamunwrapped.com/newsletter.aspxAll for the Greater Good. XV

Wonderful, X-Virgin!!! I thought it was something along those lines, but wasn't sure of the specifics. Thanks for sharing.

It's that wonderful time of the year......
I'd been thinking about this, and Scrappy mentioned it the other evening when she left that artfully wrapped present in whichever thread she left it in, for whomever she left it.
I read back through this entire thread, start to finish, and it made me smile. What clever and thoughtful people here! I had fun doing this last year; hope you all did too.
Want to give it another go around this season?

Yay! We've got participants! Scrappy has volunteered to do the wrapping again this year......dust off that deputy's badge, Poppet; it appears to be a bit tarnished around the edges.
Yinyang - give it a try? Joxie? I think you missed it last year due to being out of town, or perhaps that was the time of the Great Computer Crash of '06?
Let's give it a few more days before we start the gifting...gives those whose names aren't here yet, and Siren to get back from her vacation, a chance to participate if they'd like.

06 was when my dad was in the hospital for almost 3 months and when he was out for about a week, mom went in for almost a month. Spent a lot of time at the hospital, and few at home. I didn't follow the game, so I don't quite know how it works. Let me read and get back to ya.

You guys are cracking me up! How can anyone possibly mess up giving virtual gifts? There's no price limit; there are no long lines to stand in, an endless quantity on the shelves as well as endless possiblities on what to give. Scrappy's even got the wrapping taken care of, so you'll never run out of tape.
And no worrying about getting it to the post office early enough so that it arrives by Christmas....unless of course, my pm box can be considered the post office, which I guess it kind of is; but I promise not to go postal on you all.
I'm figuring three gifts each this year, (since we started later than last year) - two smaller ones, then the grand big one to be delivered the last day "in person".
I'll draw names out of my hat on Monday night, to see who gets who, and pm you all with who you are gifting. I'm hoping that gives Siren a chance to get back and play if she'd like.
Does everyone understand how this works? Lemme know. Back later with more details; I've gotta run and get BP to school.

Me thinks I have it figured out. I've already picked out one gift. Leaving the other two until I know who I got as a vict- uh, giftee.

Oh sure, Joxie...go ahead and brag about how you've got your shopping started way ahead of time. You probably already have your lights up, your tree decorated, cookies baked, Christmas cards done, and packages mailed too!
Damn, I need to get moving.

Nopers on the lights, tree, cookies, cards, mailed packages. I got one gift to give. It came in the mail last week, and is in a box yet to be wrapped. I go out for Christmas, so I don't bother to fix up. If I did, it'd still be up for July 4th.

*runs in, panting, raising hand* I'm here! Put me in the game too, please. I had a ball with this, last year, picking out gifts. And the best part of it was, as Gams said, I could pick out anything in the world - no price limit - and cyber-give it to my giftee. I just found pictures of my gifts online and sent Gams the links. She sent them to Scrappy, who "wrapped" them. Read back through this thread, and you'll see how it works.
It's so much fun to remember some little something your giftee mentioned in Whoosh at some point - a hobby, favorite food, favorite musician, favorite movie, etc - and find a gift that matches up. My giftee last year studied ancient Egypt, so I gave her Egyptian cotton sheets - boll! I could never afford them in real life. But as a cyber-gift, they were perfect.
*rubbing hands* I'm looking forward to finding out my secret giftee, so I can start shopping!

Yay, Siren! I'm glad you made it back in time. Let's see....we've got you, Scrappy, Moonglum and Vox, the ever-reluctant Katina, and Joxie. Is that everyone so far? Yinyang? Our newest members into the "family", Sockbunny and Uberfan? There's still time.....
I'll pick the names tonight, 11 o'clockish eastern time, and notify whose name you have by pm. And remember, pm me with the gifts you've choosen - that way no one knows who has who until the end; it's supposed to be a secret. Scrappy, Elfin Poppet, won't even know whose gift she is wrapping for who.
The gifts don't have to be pictures either. Can't find that special something on-line; want to give something that doesn't even exist in this world? No problem - descriptions are fine also, but if I remember correctly, text can not be gift-wrapped. Is that right, Elfin Poppet?

It is true that text can't be wrappend unless it's sent to me as a picture. (at least I haven't figured out how) In other words...if you can type it out on your paint program or something similar and send it to me as a JPEG I can wrap it for you. On that note. I have a whole slew of new boxes picked out this year. But if you have something special in mind please feel free to let me know. Or even if you'd like me to teach you how to wrap your own I'd be happy to do that as well.
HAPPY HUNTING!!!

It would be nice if we had a group photo album where we could upload images anonymously. We have the Whoosh MSN Group, but it tells who uploaded the images. Perhaps someone could create an album and PM the password to those playing this game? Give it the username: SecretSanta.

It's not a big deal. I already have a photobucket album set up for christmas. Anyone can send me the pics they want and I'll be happpy to host them. I do have to add though, that everyone please send your gifts to my pm, not Scrappy's. If Scrappy gets everyone's gift directly, it'll be obvious who drew her name and it won't be a surprise. I'll forward them on to her pm box without names, of course. Then I'll post the beautifully wrapped gift here addressed to its recipient. It's the only way I can figure out how to do this so the "Secret" stays in the Secret Santa.....unless, of course, I suddenly become technically unchallenged and learn how to wrap myself. The names have been drawn. I'm off to pass them out.

You're the one who's gonna end up with the paper cuts...
Ok, you Santas....you should all have names in your pm boxes.
We all understand how this works, yes?
You are giving three gifts to the person whose name you have.
The first gift is to be given on Wednesday. The second gift comes on Thrusday, and the last on Friday.
The first two gifts should be delivered to my pm box, so I can pass them out on time, one at a time, one for each day. The third gift is left here by yourself on Friday, thus revealing yourself.
Elfin Scrappy, do we have a tree this year to leave these wonderful gifts under?
