Last week a friend from LX's old Girl Scout troop called, and asked if we were going to do the "Secret Santa" thing again that us Moms have done in the past among each other.
It got me thinking and I've been mulling this around for a few days...trying to figure out how to do it here.
This is what I came up with if anyone wants to play.
Since the whole idea of the thing is secret, we need an elf. I'll volunteer myelf, since I'm already the proper elfish stature.
Sign up if you're interested in this thread. Today is December 4th; we'll give it a week for everyone to sign-up - until the 11th. Then, my-elf as Elf will take the names of the participants and dole them out in pms, like pulling names from a hat, (the pms keep the "secret" in "Secret Santa" secret). Think about the person whose name you receive, and what type of gift that person would enjoy - Joxie, for example, would not enjoy a bottle of Jack and a liter of Pepsi. Scrappy would.
Then the following week, (December 18th through the 22nd), drop me a pm each day explaining what your small gift to the person whose name you received would be. I'll post it here, again keeping the giver secret.
The last day - the 22nd - leave a bigger gift, and reveal yourself to your giftee in this thread.
Anyone interested?

Siren you are a hoot and so is everyone else.. I am game, but you know I still have that rotting pumpkin!!!!!!!! How in the world will we send our sparkling beautifully wrapped gifts if we don't have a clue what anyone wants? I barely and less than barely know who anyone is since I am late to join the gang, Spanky. But OTAY, I will give it a shot. Count me way in Elfie dear.

That's cuz she's just really excited, Scrappy.
'How can we send gifts, if we don't know what anyone wants?' Heck, I guess clues can be dropped in here, no? Sounds okay to me; I'm just making this up as I go along.
So far, we've got:
Scrappy Siren Katina X-Virgin Maeve Leafsoup
Anyone else?

Battleon, it is a cyber space gift..something not really real that you could leave at someone'e door but a "virtual gift" like Phalon says. My worry is that I won't be here some of those days on my computer ..leaving to go out of town and I am not sure of my receivers taste, but my guess is ..if I read enough of their posts, I will get a hint of who they are and what they like.. right?

Should we push it up a week? Would it be better for everyone if we passed out the gifts earlier?
It would be a shame, I think, if a recipient didn't get a gift each day. Maybe this: I was going to give each "Santa" the person who they were gift-giving to on Monday, (the 11th). That gives the Santas a whole week to think about what they're giving. If you're not going to be the following week, pm me in one pm with a list of your gifts for the week, and I'll do the Elf thing and post one each day. The only day I won't be here is the last; the 22nd.
Make sense?
Battleon...this is all done here, in this thread. No actual material gifts will exchange hands, and no wrapping paper will be harmed during the duration of this game.

Today's the day. Did it fair and square, and drew names out of Mickey Mouse ears, (borrowed from BP). Everyone who signed up in here should all have pms in your inbox with the person's name you are to bestow these well-thought out gifts upon.
Whew. Being an elf is tough work.

And I think you deserve a little pressie as well, sooooo. Here it is, I know you're the real outdoorsy elf type, and I know the pressies are meant to be virtual.... but, well
Madam P our xmas Elf, 25 trees have been planted in your name throught the Oxfamunwrapped christmas appeal.
Merry Christmas Phalon! ;D

Wait - stop! No gift-giving yet. Shhh...it's supposed to be a secret, yes?
So, in order for the person to not know who is sending them gifts, you gotta keep your identities as "Santas" secret. The only way I could figure out how to do that is by having the "Santas" pm me, the Elf, with their chosen gifts, and I will leave them under the tree here, in this thread.
Is that making sense?
Scrappy, can you whip up a nice tree for us here?

Very cute idea Mrs. Elf.. a beautiful tree or a Charlie Brown tree..whatever and on that given day (which is?) we shall all get our gifts.. Aren't you the sweetie for doing all this work. Will it be before the 21st for I will be out of town until the 4th of Jan.

I'm thinking, starting next Monday...or Sunday(?), one gift a day for five days. That's usually how it works, no? Then reveal ourselves on the fifth day.
If anyone is going to be out of town, pm me all the gifts and I will pass out one daily. I won't be around after the 21st.

Had many many many egg noggs this evening....and dang was it fun....though I did get an earfull when I called my friend Ellie from my driveway to let her know I'd made it home ok....I was supposed to be sleeping on her couch. Yeah I'm stubborn...and I prefer my own bed. And yes I am very bad....won't happen again. Anyway....here ya go XV! As promised!

Hope you've recovered, Scrappy. Your egg-noggin feeling any better today?
My Elf bag is starting to fill. Remember Santas, I will start passing out the gifts tomorrow - just a elfin reminder.
So far the bag contains from, (not for), three gifts from Leafsoup, two from Scrappy, and two from Siren. Katina, I know, is diligently working on choosing just the perfect things. I haven't heard from Maeve or X-Virgin yet.

<huffing and puffing, the Elf sneaks in with her sack of goodies slung over her shoulder, her back aching from the weight> THUDDamn, this thing is heavy. <pulls out something, and reads the tag> Scrappy, it seems you've been a good girl this year. <huge eye-roll> This is for you.... "For you Scrappy, I am going all out this year and have wrapped your gift with the biggest red ribbon I could find. A shiny new Nissan truck awaits your dream ride for your imaginary trips to somewhere, to nowhere to everywhere. Happy Adventures "

This was supposed to be delivered early, but Scrappy must have slipped some of that forgetfulness causing egg-nog in my coffee; an elf on an egg-nog laced caffeine high is a dangerous thing - and not a pretty sight at all.
For X-Virgin...
"a batch of genuine basbousa - well, as genuinely as an ....... can make it!"
Dang, the egg-nog must have spilled on the note, smearing the writing there. I can't make out who sent it.
Gotta run - back later to pass out.....more gifts, (if the egg-nog doesn't get me first).
