Maybe I'll get a pay raise... would be nice to get paid to Admin this board. < deep... deep... sigh >

That is a wish, Joxie, that I think even you can't grant.

My old computer used to get slower and slower until I'd finally go offline and log back on again... until I installed ZoneAlarm. The problem was that people were sneaking in my back door and using up my resources, but the firewall put a stop to that. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything that would cause the weird ghost problems, though. I don't remember if I asked when you mentioned it before, but is everything on your computer slow, or is it just the online stuff? Like, if you open "Paint" or "NotePad" for example, does that take a long time to load as well? I'm not really back yet, but I see she's doing a wonderful job! You mean I'm supposed to get paid? Thanks for doing such a great job, Jox, and Phalon, I hope you get that problem figured out and fixed soon.

The off-line stuff is slow too. Bringing up documents and such.
Sometimes it does seem to work better if I reboot the whole thing and start over - but not all the time.
Today - no problems at all. Go figure.
And I probably just jinxed it.

It's definitely your computer and not your connection then. I wish I had time to google this, but I need to get home. If I run into a tech at the store, though, I'll be sure to ask!

I think I've figured out the problem with my computer...or, rather, my neighbor has. He checked it the other day, found nothing wrong, and said to get a new mouse and see if that helped.
I hooked it up this morning, and.....whoosh - everything seems back up to speed. No weird scrolling problems, the ghost images are gone, and the computer will actually do what I tell it to without putting up a fuss, (wish my kids would follow suit).
I wonder if the clicker mechanism thing was wearing out? The mouse is the original, and though I clean it periodically, I never thought about its giving out eventually.

Unfortunately these things don't last forever... glad you solved your problem, and that it wasn't something major.

Hey Joxie, back to debug you with dequestion.
What's it mean when checking into a web-site, and receiving a repsonse that says, "A runtime error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?" A syntax error 1 - it says, which makes no sense to me because syntax, as far as I know, has to do with grammar and stringing things together in perfect harmony....or something like that.

I have a question that I hope someone here can answer. I use Webshots for my desktop wallpaper. They have a few pics from Xena but I would love to see more. Because of copyrights I can't just submit any photo I find on the net. Is there anywhere I can get some shots from the show and not violate the copyrights law? By the way if you haven't checked out webshots you should, they have tons of free photos to use as wallpaper and screensavers. If you don't want to pay for a premium membership you can still get lots of stuff from the community files. The Gallery will allow you to take only 5 per 24 hour period. Here is the link for it if you wish to check it out. www.webshots.com/homepage.html

I really have no clue. I have seen sites that create wallpaper that's free to download and use. I've also seen websites give permission to use their images on your desktops, or even on your own websites as long as you upload the image to your own server. Just do a google with the key words of what you're looking for, and you may find what you want.
Right now I have a sketch on my desktop done by Rebekah Lynn... I don't use it anywhere else, and so I'm not abusing her copyrights, as she does give permission to use it in such a manner.

Could someone have spilt liquid on it? Someone spilt liquid on a keyboard of mine once, and it gave me all kinds of weird problems, so I had to get a new one.

Spilling liquid on your keyboard affected how your monitor behaved?

No, not my monitor... just screwed up the keystroke commands. It was years ago, so I can't quite remember what did what, but the keystrokes I made would do the weirdest things to the programs I had opened.

Nope, nothing spilled in my keyboard. It was definately the mouse - whether the clicky thing, or the bally thing had worn out, I don't know - but after I got the new one, all the problems ceased.

Joxie...Gig...another question. The last couple of days, about half of the time I try to pull up this site, there is no scroll bar on the right. All that comes up is the Whoosh logo, and the advertisements underneath, (same with the login page), even though the thingy on the bottom says the site is done loading.
Irritating.
It only happens on this site. All my other favorites work fine. A Proboard problem, or has the phantom of Phalon's computer made another appearance?

I get that problem sometimes, too. Sometimes it says done before it's done, and sometimes it just seems to freeze. But I'm on dialup, so half the sites I visit seem to freeze for me. Sometimes I'll wait for what seems like forever before hitting the refresh button. Sometimes refreshing helps, and sometimes it just makes my wait start over again.
I'm not sure how common the problem is for DSL. Maybe Jox can shed more light on the subject where DSL is concerned. How long do you wait after it says done before refreshing or hitting 'go' or another link, etc?

The problem has only occurred the past couple of days - and only on this site. Waiting forever, until I give up, (how's that for an accurate account?). It sometimes happens after I log in also. Just weird because what the heck can you do without a scroll bar? Just hang there suspended.
