Kind of a sad thing....
I saw a cardinal at the feeder today.
I've had a set of cardinals that visit the feeder all throughout the year. A bright red male, and his red/brown female mate - Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal we named them, (orginal, huh?), and they've been coming to eat ever since we've moved here; about five years, I think.
Then about a month or so ago, they stopped coming. I figured maybe the cold weather had something to do with it, and they took shelter somewhere else in the neighborhood.
Then today Mrs. Cardinal shows up by herself. Cardinals mate for life, and I can't help thinking something happened to her mate. Sad not to see the pair together.

Absolutely not! I swear on my honor as a badass I am not. We had a pair of Redtailed Hawks in our neighborhood. Had them around for years. The most beautiful thigs. Then one year we think the male got hit by a car.....I think the female only lasted another year before she stopped coming around. Very sad.

Hi Lizzbitt! My, all this spring cleaning around here today. Did I miss something? Darn, it's still the dead of winter here, and spring is nowhere in sight. When it does come around though, do you do windows?
Xengab - I know what you mean about missing things. While I was out this morning, I saw some workers cutting down a huge old oak tree along the road in the neighborhood. Sad that it's gone.
Would have loved to have that cup of coffee, but had more than my fill this morning with a few friends. I'll be feeling the effects of the caffiene all afternoon.
I'll leave the renovations to Eirene. She's so handy with them, and looking forward to seeing what she'll come up with this time.
