Hi there! I'll take a non-alcoholic mead and some wheat-free cookies if anybody's got some...
I just stopped in to say Hi and find out what anybody might know about getting a Xena ringtone onto your cell.
Ideas?
Hope everyone is well and happy!

I don't know anything about Xena ring-tones, Prmystic...but I do have a question for you that I've been wanting to ask for quite a while. A long time ago, maybe at O2, you mentioned a book you said you could not go without. A Wiccan's Garden, or something along that nature. What I'm interested in mainly is the folklore of plants - historical uses; both mystical and medicinal. If the book in question contains any of this information, could you be so kind as to give me the title? Thanks, and hope to see you poof in more often. Hello and sweet dreams to all. storage.proboards.com/893671/images/ljxEFlZASExudmonnAMT.gif[/mgi]

Gotcha covered on that one Phalon. Scott Cunningham has a good one too. One of my favorite subjects!
Been dying to find out.....now that we are kinda on the subject. Maybe Dixie or Mystic or even Phalon would know......why we are supposed to plant rosemary by the garden gate? There is a poem somewhere I just can't seem to find it........

But I found this googling:
ROSEMARY Rosemary planted by the doorstep will keep witches away.

'Morning all, <yawn> I'll have a chai, decaf if you have it, big day ahead. Ah, Rosemary! The herb of memory, clears negativity. Take a good deep sniff of it to clear your mind, use it to help you study. Don't plant it by the doorstep or garden gate if you want to ward off witches, as you might notice that so many of us witches have it planted there as well! So why do the witches plant rosemary at the doorstep? Ah, to keep away evil of course! (I would say to keep away Christians, just to be spiteful, but they're not all bad.. ;-} Truth is, I'm working in a warm southern city, distant from my home, and I bought Rosemary and Lavender and repotted them for the balcony so that I can go out there every day and smell them. Lavender is a soothing herb, an herb of peace. Here's a link to a personal page that somebody put together about Scott Cunningham. It's actually pretty good: www.controverscial.com/Scott%20Cunningham.htmI didn't check out the rest of the site so forgive me if it turns out to be weird or something. I'd trust anything written by the late and wonderful Scott Cunningham. I have his older book Magical Herbalism, as well as his later Encyclopedia of Magickal Herbs and I enjoy them both. The first was a gift to me 23 years ago by a dear friend when I first came out of the 'broom closet' and it's dog eared. I do wish I could get the Xena theme ringtone on my new sony ericsson 637. I haven't had a cell in a while and having that ringtone is one of the things I really lusted after. I just can't figure out how to do it and how to not get a virus in either my ibook or my phone while I'm working it out. Not that the ibook's in much danger, but I've heard that people have downloaded maliciousness to their phones by accident and I'm not in the mood. Ah, thanks for the hearty welcomes and the good provisions. merry meet, mystic

I'm liking the discussion about folkloric/magical uses for plants and things...can we have a separate thread for this and other similar subjects...as I'm a fairly recent convert to Wicca so would like to learn from other people? If this is not allowed on grounds of talking about religious practices or something, or in case it offends anyone, then don't worry about it. you never know. I have a good book on the uses of plants and herbs by the way but I can't for the life of me remember what its called... Will check when I get home.

Religion has been discussed at Whoosh before... and it's no more controversial than politics... so you can start a thread on the General Board if you'd like.

Hey Dixie. The folklore and histories of plants is one of my passions....I've even given a few classes on it at work - nothing major- just informal talks...really fun. I may know a lot of the histories and myths, but I'm not really up on plants' current uses except for ornamental purposes. I'd be interested also.
On that note....I have a couple things planned in that respect regarding the House story. Be prepared...Phalon may be needing a few herbs from Dixie's bag of tricks.

Only 8 more days left!!!! Whoo-hoo!
I love my job - everything about it....but this time of year, once I know the end is around the corner, I get kind of antsy. Everyone is let go the 31st of October, but the two landscape crews; the male one, and female one, the landscape designer and me, in retail. Makes for some very solitary work - especially on weekends. On Saturdays, I'm the only one there on forty acres. Lonely....and kind of eerie. During the week, the boss will cover the store, leaving the designer and me to get things ready to close for the winter. Grueling work, and my back is ready for a rest.
Now...what to do for the next three months!

Phalon - where do you work? Sounds idyllic. Wish I was looking at 3 months off...sadly, I'm looking at the busiest 2 months of the year right now! But the light at the end of the tunnel is that I'm jetting on over to California afterwards Scrappy - lemme on the vibrating chair! ;D I have some serious muscle ache from working last night. It was below zero too! Can I get a really big hot chocolate, heavy on the chocolate syrup, with cinnamon sprinkles?

Homemade cookies!!!! Scrappy didn't have a hand in these, did she? No? Good. Yum.
My job - Idyllic? Yes - for me. The perfect job...I get to work outside, play in the mud, help customers decide what is right for their landscape situations, it keeps me in great shape, I get to bring home lots and lots of misfit plants to stick into my garden and I have three months off to spend more time with my girls and hubs. The down side is, my hands look like old lady hands - beat up and scarred no matter how good my gloves are, lots and lots of bugs - big scary garden spiders and bees of all sorts, I spend way more money on plants then I would if I didn't work in a place like this, three months without a paycheck, and my family has to put up with three monts of my cooking, (Hubs does it while I'm working because he gets home first).
Eirene - our nursery stock is mostly in trees and shrubs which are field grown, so I don't have to do much potting. The crews come in and dig and pot in the spring, as well as those trees and shrubs that we do buy in bareroot. Ocassionally, I will be asked to help, and I feel for you. It is not fun. The perennials, we buy in also...thousands of them in one gallon pots, and usually first thing when I'm called back, we, in retail, will have to unload the trucks and place the pots in neat rows alphabetically. Urgh! Carrying four pots at a time, and for the first two weeks or so back to work, my arms usually feel like they are going to fall off.
Makes me tired just thinking about it. Goodnight.

Phalon,I love going in to garden centres and I always come out with a new plant for the garden. This time of year, they sell lots of Christmas decor. In our newspaper today, there are some lovely pictures of autumn scenes in the country side, they seem to think, that leaves are staying longer on the trees this year.Morning to you. Oh Scrappy,I love your cookies, especially when I need some sleep.

<comes in beaming; wearing the proud Mom smile>
Ok, time to brag on about Little Xena for just a moment, because sometimes I don't think I do it often enough. Parent/Teacher conferences tonight. All As and one B+. Only fourth grade, but still...something for a parent to be proud of...and she can be very proud of herself too.
There's only the little matter of disorganization to tend to. Something about she'd lose her head if it wasn't attached. Now where'd I hear that phrase before? Oh yes....something Mom used to tell me growing up. There may be still hope for Little Xena. Me, though? I've lost my head a long time ago, and it hasn't turned up yet.
Xengab...I always seem to walk out of the nursery with a plant too...and that is the problem. I think I may just barely squeak by paying off my balance this year...a bit taken out of my paycheck each week makes it all too easy to say to myself, "I gotta have one, (or a few), of these." We do lots of Christmas stuff too...wreaths, garlands, boughs, and Christmas trees. We started today, and I usually don't last long after that. I prefer to work outside, rather than be inside with the fresh cut greenery. It messes with my allergies too much.
Hope you all are having a lovely week. My day off tomorrow and the morning spent at a friend's house for coffee and chit-chat. She spoils Baby Phalon too much...but that's okay...my friend is kind of like Baby Phalon's aunt. With none of my family living near by, this is a good thing.
