Pancakes. And eggs, and toast, and bacon!
That was one of the options wasn't it?
Eggs: Hard or Soft Boiled?

Hard. And pancakes, eggs, veggie sausage...and pepper jack cheese grits!
(that was one of the choices, right?)
Fried egg and cheese sandwich with mayo and a side of seasonal fresh fruit or omelet?

A side of fresh fruit and an omelet.
(it's the pick and choose option - it's a buffet!)
Orange juice with pulp, or pulp-free?
|
|

Lots and lots of pulp...the most!
Orange or grapefruit juice?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Dec 27, 2009 15:35:56 GMT -6
It's a choice if you're doing the eating. Bluck! I'm not a fan of grits, except when it's on sandpaper.
Omelets are okay, but I'd go for the Fried egg and cheese sandwich .... on buttered toast. I like ham and american cheese omelets, but stop there please. Especially no fried bell peppers! Super Bluck! But, I could make a breakfast with a side of seasonal fresh fruit all by itself.
I'll answer the next two together - OJ pulp-free. There's a "sweet" pink grapefruit that's good, but even so, I don't want one all that often. And for just juice, it's gotta be OJ.
What other juices: Apple or Grape? (Not limited to breakfast here.)

That's for all you grit-haters! But I'll do the double super bluck on the green peppers! Make mine onions, mushrooms, spinach, and any kind of cheese, please! Grape juice. Stay home on New Year's Eve or go out on the town?

No grapefruit juice (too sour), and no apple or grape either (too sweet - although I like apple cider in fall). Orange juice with or without pulp, pineapple juice, cranberry mixes (if I can find it without a bunch of sugar-like sustances added) and I've kinda glommed onto some of the V8 Fusion flavors - a mix of fruit and vegetable juices.
Since moving here we tend stay close to home on New Year's Eve; the neighbors and us usually get together to bring in the new year.
Resolutions or no?

Post by stepper on Dec 29, 2009 0:15:05 GMT -6
I stay close to home for New Years. Steppet has a few Germanic traditions from her heritage that she continues - including - UGH sauerkraut.
One resolution...which is to not make any more resolutions.
Set off your own fireworks or watch someone else do that?

|
Post by Phalon on Dec 31, 2009 10:32:01 GMT -6
I've never seen fireworks on New Year's so I can't claim to either set off my own, or watch those others light. Firecrackers though - the plain, old noisemaker kind, I hear throughout the neighborhood.
Corned beef and cabbage? Beans - is it pinto beans that are supposed to be good luck on New Year's day? Or just whatever happens to be hanging out in the fridge?

I know there are different traditions in different places, but the one I've heard about is black eyed peas. You have to eat a bowl of black eyed peas on New Years Day for good luck.
Ever think of joining the new year dip by the local polar bear club one time, or are they just plain nuts?

Lol. Great question, Step!
And...nope! Wouldn't dare do it. Even for a charity event. I would volunteer my culinary skills after the dip in the shape of simmering soup pots!
And it's black eyed peas--and greens of some kind--in my neck of the South, as well...but I fixed a pot of pintos and black beans this year!
If you were given a choice as the sweepstakes winner...a shiny convertible for the weekend or the use of a luxury houseboat...but you can't leave the boat once you board?

Black-eyed peas and greens! Yes, I'd forgotten what kind of beans, so I'm soaking a big pot of mixed beans to make soup tomorrow - black-eyed peas are in there, so it's all good. Black-eyed peas and greens is the southern tradition, I believe. We've always done corned beef and cabbage, (tomorrow it'll be in Reuben form) for luck and prosperity in the New Year; the Irish tradition. Hubs is both - a transplanted Southerner with Irish ancestry so we're doubling up on the good luck foods.
Interesting question, TG. I'd take the convertible without hesitation; you know I love the drive.
Bare feet or socks in bed?
(edited this morning to change all the pinto beans I'd written to black-eyed peas; even while I was thinking black-eyed peas, I wrote pinto beans. I wonder why? Gotta be some subconscious aversion to Fergie)

I'm not sure I've got a handle on the question TG, but if the boat is just for the weekend then put me on the luxury boat and look out Carribean! If you mean convertible for the weekend or luxury boat but permanently...NEVER getting back to land again...then I'd have to go for the convertible. As much as I love boating and the briney, I love the woods and wildlife too much to sacrifice communing with nature again.
Bare feet in bed except when it's really cold - and then I wear socks. If my feet are cold the rest of me is cold too. That might make me the odd man out, but that's how I'm wired.
Phalon's calendar comment in the other thread made me think of this one:
More than one calendar up on the walls (or where ever), or is one calendar enough?
|
|
|
Post by quettalee on Jan 1, 2010 20:53:26 GMT -6
Nope, both were just for the weekend, Step! Always bare feet in the bed; never could sleep with socks. Usually I'm lucky if there's one calendar in the house. Mare was good about having a surplus of them, but not so with me. Dishwasher appliance or dish washer by hand?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Jan 1, 2010 22:18:28 GMT -6
Dishwashers always seem to need help with some dishes unless the dishwasher has two hands instead of sprayers, so by hand it is. I've got an appliance, but it takes up space under the cabinet, unused.
Bath or shower?

Shower.
Two weeks in China or two weeks in the Swiss Alps?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Jan 2, 2010 23:15:36 GMT -6
Swiss Alps! I bet Phalon would say that too, but she'd be interested in skiing and I'd be more interested in the people skiiing. Or mountain climbing! If I was going to China, it'd only be so I could look for their hackers - may their fingers rot up to their ears.
Which could you live without - chocolate or coffee?
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 3, 2010 8:33:01 GMT -6
You bet right, Stepper...though it wouldn't be just to ski. I've been to Switzerland a couple of times while I was stationed in Germany; both visits were during the summer. It's absolutely gorgeous! I'd love to go back sometime.
Not as tough a question as it first appears. Though I love, love, love chocolate, I honestly don't eat it very often. Coffee though....I'd die without coffee. Or at least be so grumpy, those around me would have the urge to put me outta my misery.
Which makes you cringe more - spiders or snakes?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Jan 3, 2010 14:20:46 GMT -6
Snakes I guess. I'm not all that bothered by them, except for the ones that rattle. Spiders, even the fuzzy ones, don't bother me. My mother was the opposite. There was a swamp behind her home when she was young and they played in the swamp - that pretty much ended any problems with snakes. Spiders however, bothered her.
More claustrophobic or acrophobic?
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 3, 2010 21:57:50 GMT -6
I'm a teensy bit claustrophobic - only in large crowds where people are crammed together, standing front to back. Sounds weird, but since I'm short, if I'm standing somewhere with my face to someone's back wherever I turn, I feel the need to get out of the crowd just so I can breathe.
I'm definitely acrophobic, and even that is in a weird way. Why can't I have a normal phobia. HA! An oxymoron if I ever wrote one. I have a real fear of heights, almost paralyzing in some cases....but only if there is nothing solid beneath me or stationary behind me. For instance, I love roller coasters and have never hesitated to get on even the highest ones I've come across. I can not however get on a ferris wheel - the kind with the swingy chairs because if feels like I'm going to flip over backward. Looking out over a scenic overlooks - lovely. Ladders - nope!
I guess the phobia is more acroBATic - Backward Altitude Terror....or maybe I'm just afraid of men in tights on the flying trapeze.
With the Olympics coming up this season...
Speed skating or figure skating?
|
|
|
Post by vox on Jan 4, 2010 12:51:58 GMT -6
I'm afraid of heights too Phalon! and not good with crowds either as I'm only 5ft 5 inches tall, it's okay for MG as he is 6ft 2 inches and can see anything! I can't even go on a kids swing nowdays without feeling sick!
As for Olympics I prefer watching Speed skating to figure skating, it's far more exciting to watch. although I do envy anyone who can skate, I can't even stay up on roller skates! Lol

I probably do without coffee more often than chocolate. I take my coffee-drinking in spells...and right now feels like one of those spells is coming on... ...brb... mmmm...love that smell! Definitely snakes. Spiders don't really bother me. I guess because getting bit by a spider and turning in to a superhero is much more appealing than getting bit by a snake and turning into something like this... Sssssss. Tough choice on the phobia question. I am claustrophobic, also, because of my height...in crowds and tight, crowded spaces like a full elevator. I'm deathly afraid of heights. I think it goes back to my childhood when I got thrown off the high-dive at the local swimming lake. My uncle thought it would get me over my fear. Pfft. Not so. And speaking of superheros... Would you rather be Spiderman or Batman? (hope we haven't been down this road already)

Post by stepper on Jan 4, 2010 23:35:10 GMT -6
Speed skating for me too. I understand that figure skating requires different, and perhaps more, techniques. Speed skating just looks like it's more fun.
Batman had better toys so it's hard to say - but I think the ability to swing building to building would be too much like flying to bypass the chance to do it. Yeah. The web-head wins this one.
Would you rather have someone do all your cooking for a month (dish washing included), or all your house cleaning?
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 5, 2010 8:46:49 GMT -6
I prefer watching speed skating too. Figure skating I can watch for a little while....maybe five minutes, but after that I get bored - it just seems to last forever. There is more edge-of-your-seat thrill watching speed skating.
Spiderman for me too, for the same reason as Stepper. Swinging through the city like that would just be too much fun!
Definitely housecleaning. Oh, how I sometimes which for a maid....and LX refuses to play the part.
Sitting in front of a fireplace, or sitting in a jacuzzi?
|
|
|
Post by quettalee on Jan 5, 2010 21:07:05 GMT -6
Obviously the house-cleaning for me!
And definitely the fireplace. Waaaay too much time spent in whirlpools when I was playing college sports...and then there's that old black and white horror flic where they kidnapped the girls and put them in this salt solution-type whirlpool bathtub that drained all the life from them....that movie creeped me out for years. Heck, it stills creeps me out!
Chopping wood or baling hay?
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 6, 2010 18:50:59 GMT -6
Hhmmm, I've never done either, really. I've cut wood with a saw, and I've played many times in haylofts, but never chopped or baled. For the safety of those around me and myself, I'd choose baling hay. An ax would probably lead to axidental homicide due to clumsiness. Ax a silly question....at least I could get out on bale. Hopefully.
Job for a day, (provided you had the skills necessary): Surgeon or road construction crew flag man/woman?

Tiger or Leopard? (Which do you see as being more graceful?)

Leopard
Watched a documentary on Leopards recently and was surprised to find out how intelligent they are. They leave tigers and lions way behind in the brain stakes.
Two wheel drive or four wheel drive.

Post by EllieNeo on Jan 7, 2010 12:28:32 GMT -6
few of these i decided to answer: i could go without coffee, cuz.. well, i don't drink coffee! i'd be superman, but ONLY because he can fly. batman is SO much cooler. figure skating is awesome. speed racing... not so much. chopping wood cuz it strengthens your arms faster than baling hay. for the tiger/leopard one.... leopards are more graceful, but i would rather be a tiger cuz they're scarier looking. i prefer cars with four-wheel drive. but that was when i lived in indy, and needed it. here... i have a two-wheel drive, and will probably not ever need four-wheel drive. be forced to give up your television, or your computer?
