Definitely science.
Spent too much time in the OR coddling surgeons, so construction. And btw, sis, your post was too funny. I bow to your wordliness.
I like all big cats, but I guess leopards because of the color, if I must choose.
Never owned a four-wheel drive except on the farm, but I sure could've used one today! That rear-wheel drive in my pick-up is dangerous in treacherous weather; fun, but dangerous.
Which do you dread more...trip to the dentist or speak in front of a large crowd?

Large crowds. I already went through the dentist routine for braces and headgear...so there really isn't anything they haven't done to me that I could handle.
Stubbing your toe or getting your fingers caught in a door? *Which hurts more? I've done both and neither are much fun.*

Smashing fingers hurts A LOT more. I broke a finger that way once. Not cool. Welcome to Whoosh!, Seeker. Good to have ya. If you had to be one or the other, would you rather be blind or deaf?

A good book. It never had technical problems and doesn't need a power supply to keep you entertained.

How true Seeker!
A rose definitely (my favourite flower!) I like Lillies too, but they just remind me of funerals.

I have not seen many black and white films, so I have to default to color.
Silk or Egyptian Cotton?

Geez! I missed several of these. Okay...catching up takes me all the way back to Phalon's Fireplace or jacuzzi. We have a four person hot tub - close enough - and I love crawling into that thing at night, in the dark, after a difficult day. But my only requirement for our house was that it had to have a raised fireplace. The fireplace still wins. The hot tub is physically relaxing, but the fireplace is mentally relaxing and I need that more.
Chop wood or bale hay. TG, either one is hard work and you'll be wanting access to Phalon's jacuzzi, but for me, baling hay is worse. It's not just driving a tractor that kicks out a neat little bale. Those bales have to be dried and stacked up. All of it is hot, dry work. Every wonder why farmers chew tobacco? It comes with baling hay. Okay, yes, some people try chewing gum instead, but baling hay will clog the air and dry your mouth out. I'd rather chop wood. At least I know it'll end up in a fireplace - or potbelly stove!
Surgeon or Flagman? I think I'd rather be a flagman. Cutting people up and wading in blood isn't high on my list of things I want to do.
Tiger or leopard. I've always favored tigers and cheetah's, and since cheetah isn't on the list, tiger wins by default.
Two or four wheel. Four wheel. I had a four wheel, but when we were sent to Turkey I left it with mom. She spent the next two and half years trying to convince me I wanted a new one when we returned. Mine had optional four wheel instead of full time - the best of both worlds. Definitely four wheel.
Give up the computer or TV. I'd go into shock if I was cut off from either, but if I HAD to give up one or the other, I think I'd give the the TV. Of course, I'd cheat and get a personal DVD player, but yeah, I'd give up the TV.
Math or Science? They really do go together. Math has structure and rules to which it must adhere and generally I prefer structure. Science can be wonderfully surprising though. There's a Murphy's Law that says "Under the most rigorously controlled conditions of pressure, temperature, volume, humidity, and other variables an organism will do as it damn well pleases". It's the unknown that spices life up - I'd go for Science.
Dentist or Public speaking. Phalon once said she was visiting her Dental Dominatrix, and I understand completely. Mine is a wonderful lady - but even in form fitting leather she couldn't convince me to visit the dentists office except for absolute necessity.
Stub Toe or Door Slam? OUCH either way! I end up stubbing my toe every once in a while and it's painful - but fingers in a door even sounds worse.
Wow. Be deaf or blind? Now there's a difficult choice. I'm dependent on my sight more than on my hearing, so I'd keep my vision. Besides, I have a screaming high pitched tinnitus that causes head aches. Silence would be a blessing.
PC or MAC. People who have MACs usually love 'em, except when they get an uncompleted command in memory which makes 'em hang. PCs are not as fast and the code is often sloppy, but because of its general popularity there's more to do with a PC because more people program for them (I think), so I'd go with a PC. Besides, they're a bit less expensive.
Music or a Book? I enjoy both, even sing in the shower and car when no one else will be disturbed, but I'd still go with the books. They'll take you places and make up feel things that you can't experience any other way.
Rose or Lilly. Roses - I have a couple dozen hybrid tea roses along my sidewalk. I like the color and form of the rose more. My favorite is the National Velvet - fire engine red with a yellow center, aromatic, and fuzzy!
B/W or color films. Color. Some of the old B/W films are classics and the world would be more drear without them, but Fantasia in black and white? That just doesn't work. There are some stills were B&W works better, but generally I prefer color.
Silk or Egyptian Cotton. Really - I have no clue. But I've slept on silk and without knowing better, that's what I'd choose.
Hudson Leick - was she a better villain or heroine?

Good one, Uncle Step! I had to log in just to answer.
No one on this earth plays the bad girl like Hudson...well, unless it would be Ms Lawless on an "evil Xena" day...
Anyway, I thought good-girl Callisto was just too sappy...or wimpy...or...I just like her better as a villain.
Who was worse as a love-interest - Nerdicus or Ulysses?

Post by stepper on Jan 10, 2010 0:41:15 GMT -6
I'm with you TG. She was a great villain. Stepping into the good girl role when everyone was already enamored of LL must have been daunting. She did as much with it as she could, but she was better as Callisto.
I wasn't thrilled with Ulysses - but loved Gabrielle's dance on the deck.
Best Xena song: Sistas Are Doing It For Themselves or Burial

Bravo, Stepper! Great job at ketchup there; I thought about going back and doing the same, but I just couldn't muster the strength. In addition, my rambling tendencies would require more than just one post (is there a word limit on posts these days?) to catch up.
I'll go back to the villian/sickly sweet Callisto question though. Definitely villian. Alti was the pure evil villianess. Callisto was mad for evil. Fun, fun, fun, and IMO, she had one of the best roles in the series. I can't imagine anyone else playing Callisto but Hudson. Her mannerisms, her facial expessions, and delivery of the one-liners and quips they gave her character to say was just all too delicious.
The reformed, good Callisto? Painful to watch. It was like when Olivia was transformed into wimpy-@ss Eve - you just wanted to slap some of the bad-@ssness back into her.
Best Xena song: Sistas Are Doing It For Themselves or Burial? I like 'Sistas Are Doing It For Themselves' better. Great song, and it looked as if they had so much fun performing it. Memorable lyrics too; the kind that makes you want to sing along. LX and I were in the grocery store recently, when the song came on (the original; not Lucy's version). LX and I, of course, had to sing and dance through the aisles.
Speaking of songs and public places....
Piped in music in general - do you enjoy it and listen, or find it an annoyance?

Roller blades or roller skates? *Roller blades for me*
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 12, 2010 7:04:01 GMT -6
Hmm...I haven't been roller-skating since those Jr. High days when "The Rink" was the place to be seen on Fridays nights. Roller-blading....if I ever tried it, I don't remember. Probably has something to do with blocking painful experiences from the memory.
Of the roller sports, I'll take roller-skiing anyday. Not a choice listed, I know, but somewhat similar to roller-blading, only with longer things attached to your feet, and poles.
Hide and Seek, or Tag?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Jan 12, 2010 23:09:08 GMT -6
I usually listen to the piped in music because there's often a song or two that I like, and if it's something I don't like, I can always tune it out.
Roller skates because I've done that. My uncle was a bouncer at a roller rink a long time ago, but I never approached his skill level. Mostly I manage to not fall down. I used to ice skate but I had an unpleasant experience and by the time I recovered it was too late to get back on the horse as they say. I suspect rollerblading would be similar to ice skating.
Hide 'n Seek. The playing field was more even for hide-n-seek. Tag meant lots of running and if you weren't one of the older or faster kids, you ended up "it" more often than not.
You are past the initial hello - past the first few seconds for that initial impression. What's more important to you when considering this new person as a potential new friend - their humor or the fact that they actually listen to you without being critical?
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 13, 2010 7:00:56 GMT -6
Whether they actually listen. Listening is an attribute too many people don't possess. I love humor - I especially adore sarcastic humor. In the first moments of a conversation though, without really knowing a person, humor can be interpreted in different ways....often in ways the speaker does not intend.
Telephone answering machine on or off while you are home?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Jan 13, 2010 15:44:03 GMT -6
It passed on to machine heaven, but even when I was home it was on. I get way too many solicitations from charities and surveys and give aways to simply answer the phone all the time. Even with call number delivery it isn't always easy to tell who is calling. If I don't recognize the number, I'm not answering.
Your "outgoing" message on your answering machine: Say who you are or only say what number they called? (Mine says "You have reached [number]. Please leave a message at the tone." That's it.

I now use the default OGM that came pre-recorded on my machine. I used to make up a lot of different OGMs. Sometimes I'd make a new one after each call just to see if anyone would notice that someone was home. Then figured they'd just think I had an expensive answering machine with multiple OMGs.
day person or night person?
|
|
|
Post by Awesome Aphrodite on Jan 13, 2010 18:41:25 GMT -6
my message on my voicemail is kind of a smart-alec one, but hardly anyone ever catches it. I say "Leave a message before the beep." as for the day/night person... depends on if I had a good day at work or not. sometimes I will stay up till 3am, and sometimes I'll go to bed right when I get home and wake up at 6am. is that just me...? hand-made blankets, or store-bought?
|
|
|
Post by stepper on Jan 13, 2010 23:44:06 GMT -6
I'm a night person by nature, but my job forces me to be a day person. Work, after a three day weekend is hard on me - by the third day I'm sleeping late and staying up late. Getting up for work is always a task, but after a three day weekend it's unbearable.
Two Christmases ago we got a couple of VERY soft throw blankkets. Those things are great - I love 'em - their just soooo cozy. And I have a couple other's that I like...more than a couple that are Snoopy's - like that's a surprise - a couple we bought in Turkey that are nice and warm even in the coldest weather. That's not to say I don't like the home made ones. Mom made a queen sized blanket for us, and Steppet's mother did the same. That they took the time to make them for us makes them special. And since my mother died several years ago, it's even more important for it's sentimental value. But in terms of making a blanket, "I" have no plans to do so. It's a lot of work and by the time you purchase all the yarn and then invest the time in it - compared to simply going to a store and buying a decent blanket - I think the store version wins.
Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter?

Post by Phalon on Jan 14, 2010 7:10:12 GMT -6
I keep the answering machine on for the same reasons as you, Stepper. Mine's built into the phone though, so until I blow the phone up, the machine remains (it's been known to happen....three phones met their fate at my hands).
The message is the stock one by answering machine guy; he's name is Clark. "Hello. No one is available to take your call right now. Please leave your name and number after the tone."
Gabbin named him years ago, and it stuck; nearly everyone calls him Clark, and they have conversations with him before asking to speak to whoever it is they called for.
"Yo, Clark, yo. Whassup? (bunch of unintelligable teenage utterings). Been nice talking with ya, Clark, but I really called for LX. Is she around?"
I tried once to leave a recording explaining Clark was on a much-needed vacation, but he was checking in for his messages, and to please leave one after the beep. His vacation though, was short-lived; I unplug the machine cord often because I walk and talk with the phone, (it's not cordless - those are the ones I tend to blow up with just a touch), and any out-going messages get erased. Hence, the reason why Clark's been around so long.
Store bought blankets; I don't have any handmade ones.
Lord of the Rings.

Green or blue?

Post by stepper on Jan 14, 2010 22:31:39 GMT -6
I use dinner and supper interchangeably, but I thnk I use the term "supper" more often. Dinner has a more formal feel to it for me. It's the same time, same meal, but it's a get-out-the-good-plates-light-the-candles-elbows-off-the-table meal. Maybe the idea is like Thanksgiving where adults had dinner at the big table and the kids had supper on trays or where ever.
Teal. (The color of my motorcycle.) Okay....blue.

Several flashlights spread around the house, or just a couple is enough?

Post by Mini Mia on Jan 15, 2010 22:22:29 GMT -6
Depends on whether or not you're afraid of the dark. I have power failure flashlights plugged into pretty much every room in the house, and in the garage. My imagination gets really active whenever I get caught in the dark.
