Sheesh "The Rifleman" and "Daniel Boone" how could I have forgotten them Siren; come to think of it there's probably a few more that I just can't recall at present but will most likely come to mind later.
That's interesting about "Wanted Dead or Alive" MG, as I recall it was fairly popular here, and with Steve McQueen becoming such a huge star you'd think it would have aired earlier then it did over there.

Shall we blow the dust and cobwebs off this one.
I used to be a doctor in a sometimes strange but very watchable medical drama. Now however, I lead a crack team of crime-busters.

I'd totally forgotten these threads what with work and all.
Definitely American Kat.

Ummmm this one is gonna take some working out methinks.
Recent/ish?
I'll take a punt while I'm at it, the first thing that came to mind for some reason when I read "crack team of crime-busters" was "The A-Team" so if that's correct you'd be George Peppard.
No idea if he ever starred in a medical drama though.

Fraid I've got to pour water on both of you.
Not George Peppard.
Recent/ish........yes. One current show and one within the last 10-15 years.

Hi Kat! You could be right. He did a short lived show called Doctor's Hospital. Thanks Step, don't recall Doctor's Hospital. See you put your post on just after mine, hope I didn't shoot through on you as you were talking to me. Fraid I've got to pour water on both of you. Not George Peppard. Recent/ish........yes. One current show and one within the last 10-15 years. Sheesh when Stepper mentioned Doctor's Hospital I was sure it must be Peppard, don't wanna count my chickens before they hatch I guess. Is the current show one of the many CSI's?

No, not one of the current CSI's.
Gotta dash. Work beckons. Have fun with this one.

Ahhh, think the penny finally dropped, used to watch it from time to time, and it was as you said sometimes strange, especially Doc Geiger [ Mandy Patinkin ]
So you've now left the medical profession and joined the NCIS, and you would be ...............
Mark Harmon?

Spot on. Well done Kat.
I used to love Chicago Hope. Very quirky at times. I think it got overshadowed, and overtaken by ER in the ratings though. Didn't enjoy ER as much.

Not my favourite genre medical shows, never watched ER except for bits here and there, but Chicago Hope was one I watched semi regularly, mainly I think because of Patinkin whose character so dominated the screen, much like Vince Edwards Dr Casey so many years before.
Okay, a character from one of my favourite series ............
Solving crimes is my forte but not my first love, that is something I would be devoting myself to full time if not for the manipulations of my superior.

Ooh, the show that springs immediately to mind is 'Pie In The Sky'.
A great show. Henry Crabbe was too absurd a character to be a policeman, which for me made it very watchable. I like characters that are quirky. Their eccentricities make them seem more real to me.
I might be wrong but I think tis the above, Kat.

Nope you're not wrong MG, it is the eccentric Henry Crabbe from "Pie In The Sky" a show that I can watch no matter how many times it pops up, and it does fairly often believe me.
I'm with you about "off center" characters and shows, which is why I was a big fan of series like "Picket Fences" and "Northern Exposure."
Well picked, and over to you.

I am a police officer at present 'on loan' to the Chicago police department. Along with my trusty sidekick who, although deaf can read lips, we solve many of the cities crimes.
For some reason I never saw either Picket Fences or Northern Exposure. They were picked up by satellite channels and they seem to have strange scheduling over here. Shame, sounds like I would have enjoyed them.

Ummm the deaf sidekick would be a dead giveaway if this was one I'm familiar with, but Is it current?

Post by moonglum on Oct 31, 2009 2:26:41 GMT -6
No, about 10 to 15 years old, Kat.
Loved this show. You couldn't get much quirkier than this. It had a ghost in it too, if I remember rightly.

A deaf sidekick AND a ghost and I still don't have a clue, think this is gonna be hard if not impossible.
Was Marlee Matlin the sidekick?

No, definitely not Marlee Matlin.

"definitely" not MM, do I gather from that the sidekick was a bloke?
Hope the cavalry arrives soon, have a feeling I'm never getting this one.

Well I believe the sidekick was a male!

|
Post by moonglum on Nov 3, 2009 12:07:10 GMT -6
He actually had two sidekicks, the other was definitely a bloke.
It's difficult to give clues to this one without giving it away.

You believe the sidekick was a male but you're not sure, sheesh this just gets curiouser and curiouser. Can only be two explanations that I can think of, it was an animal, possibly a mutt, or the show was Sci-Fi and it was of an indeterminate gender. Either of the above correct? It's difficult to give clues to this one without giving it away. Not much chance of that I'm afraid, with all the clues so far and I'm still light years away from an answer.

No not a sci-fi show. It was a cop show.
The central character was from north of the border.

The central character was from north of the border. Ahhh so he's Mexican. It's all coming back to me now, he's a Royal Canadian Mountie whose partner was a Wolf, or was that a Huskie, definitely not Marlee Matlin though that's for sure. Strange thing is that I used to watch it and was disappointed when it ended [ or was pulled off air ] after a fairly short run, and although I recall really enjoying it I can hardly remember a thing about it except him in his uniform and his mutt, which I can't recall being deaf. Have to look it up on IMDb as soon as I find out the name. Sheesh hope I have the right show after all that.

Got to give it to you after all that exertion Kat.
The show was Due South.Canadian Mountie Benton Fraser and his ghost of a father. The sidekick was a wolf named Deifenbaker and yes, he was supposed to be deaf but could lipread. The male partner was a Chicago cop named ray.
A great show, brimming with quirkiness. I was disappointed when it was pulled from the air as well.

Can't understand how so many of the details slipped my mind, all came flooding back after reading your post and checking on IMDb.
Okay, this should be fairly easy ...............
I'm the Doctor in a small town, married to the Sheriff, trying to cope with my work, raising three kids and the unusual amount of strange happenings that occure in such a small community.
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Nov 12, 2009 12:14:34 GMT -6
That depends, Dear Katina, on who is playing.
Was it Dr. Mike from Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman? Three kids, yes? Was the cute guy what's-his-name who she evidently married a sheriff? (Did she even evidently marry him?) Was the Wild West considered a small community?
I should sooo be banished from all television and movie threads. I was going to try my hand at your Who Am I movie question, but I think I'll refrain due to concern for your now pounding headache.

Hello Gams, nice to see you in here. Let's see, can't help you with the number of kids I'm afraid, not sure if "cute guy what's-his-name" was a sheriff, and don't know if they eventually got hitched. Good answer but no, it ain't Dr. Quinn I'm afraid. Go ahead and have a bash at the movie thread, there's no way you could ever give me a headache ........ well a little pressure behind the eyes maybe but nothing a Panadol [ or two ] can't fix.

Due South was a fun show!
This is so sad.....the lead male was in both Alien and Top Gun...but I only vaguely remember the TV show and didn't watch it. Maybe what I remembered will clue someone else into the name of the show.
