Sheesh Siren, was hoping you'd nail this one. The other actor is Richard Dreyfuss obviously, still can't get a handle on the actress though [ not Barbra Streisand is it? ] and don't think I'm any closer to naming the film either. Approximately when was it made Jox?

You're right about the actress, Kat. And she's an Almond Joy, not a Mounds. ;D

Siren" anyone" feel free to jump right in whenever you feel the urge. Sheesh know three of the actors and still can't place it [ and that clue went straight over my head Jox, are they sweets/lollies of some kind? ] Barbra hasn't made that many films so I'll take a punt and say ........... A Star Is Born?

I don't have a clue what movie the quote is from, but I believe I know where the "an Almond Joy, not a Mounds" phrase comes into play....
"Sometimes you feel like a nut; sometimes you don't....Almond Joy's got nuts; Mounds don't."
So it stands that in this movie, Barbara's got nuts? A ballsy type character?

You're very close, Phalon. But Babs ain't got'em, she is'em. Or so it appears she is'em. I _know_ Siren is sure to get it now. I thought this movie was more popular than her others, but I guess it's just me who liked it better than her usual fare.

I'm gonna try and use the clues on the title. I haven't seen this movie, but is it "Nuts"? I think Babs was in that one. BTW, sad news from Hollywood - Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack (directed Babs in "The Way We Were") died today. Eerie thing is, it must have been right around the time my mom and I were watching one of Pollack's best, "Tootsie", for the umpteenth time. I laughed like it was the first time. Great movie! But then, it was just one of many memorable ones from Pollack. www.nytimes.com/2008/05/27/movies/27pollack.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss

That is sad news. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
And yeppers, the movie quote came from "Nuts." I rewatched it just the other day, and it was the first time I'd really paid close attention to that conversation.

Last lines of a terrific comedy:
"Looking good, Billy Ray!" "Feeling good, Louis!"

Oh oh, think I know this, was mentioned in the "Movies You Can't Not Watch" thread if memory serves, and if it's the one I'm thinking of then agree 100% Siren, terrific comedy indeed.
I'll wait [ for a short while ] and see if anybody else wants to have a crack at it.

Right, looks like there's no takers, so, this would be an exchange between Louis Winthorpe III [ Dan Aykroyd ] and Billy Ray Valentine [ Eddie Murphy ] from the excellent ..........
Trading Places.

Thanks Siren, gee I've seen that movie so many times I think I could speak most of the dialogue as it plays. Here's an interesting one, an exchange between two guys ...... "Can I help you?" "I'd like to see the man in charge." "In here..." "I want to report a murder." "Sit down. Where was this murder committed?" "San Francisco, last night." "Who was murdered?" "I was."

Here's a hint, Vox - real-life lovers Meg Ryan & Dennis Quaid co-starred in the '80s version. Good one, kat!

"I call that mighty big talk from a one-eyed fat man!" No, that wasn't a slam on you, kat. It's the next quote. Lol! Well I still have both eyes but I'll admit to a tiny bit of "middle age" spread. Let me get my thinking cap on, the quote is referring to the Duke, but is it this from TG or RC; I'll say .......................... True Grit?

A classic line from a classic film...
"Cool Hand Luke"
*suddenly worried* Is that right?

You can stop worrying Siren, it is indeed from Cool Hand Luke, well done.

Whew! Glad to hear that.
Okay. Let's hope this 1980s movie crossed the pond. A secondary character says this to our hero.
"I don't know why Cletus drug your tired old bones in here, he must have owed you somethin' fierce. Fact is, mister, you start screwin' up this team, I'll personally hide-strap your ass to a pine rail and send you up the Monon Line!"

Is it a prison movie by any chance?

No, kat, this is a sports movie - basketball, to be exact. And it's a period film, set in 1954 small-town Indiana.

Ummmm, can't think of many, if any, basketball movies off the top of my head, perhaps a clue [ or three ] to who was in it may help ............ then again it may not.

Let's see...our star played Lex Luthor in a couple of the Christopher Reeve "Superman" films....was in "The French Connection"...lead the survivors to freedom in "The Poseidon Adventure". In this one, he plays a middle-aged coach, looking for a chance at redemption at a small-town high school.
I really am worried that this movie may not have made it to your country.
