Think I'm gonna have to capic ...... capit .......... give up on this one Siren, the actor has to be Gene Hackman but I still can't put a name to the film I'm afraid.

Lol! You reminded me of Porky Pig, trying to get his tongue around a tough word, kat. I can't spell it, either!
Now worries - it's "Hoosiers", a very good film. Its period detail is great, and the performances are wonderful. Well worth a watch, if you get a chance.
How about this one, said as our hero pulls down his collar:
"When you hang a man, you better look at him."

Lol! You reminded me of Porky Pig, trying to get his tongue around a tough word, kat. I can't spell it, either! There were to many syl .... syb ..... letters in that word. I remember the film Siren, but don't think I recall ever seeing it; your recommendation is enough for me to watch out for it though. Would that quote be from a Western?

Oh, I know, I know....maybe....possibly....probably not.
But it sounds like something that would have been said in "High Em' High" with Clint Eastwood. I just saw this movie for the first time about a month ago. Hubs likes Eastwood; he is not even close to being a favorite of mine, but we had to watch this one because it is "classic" Eastwood in the movie world according to Hubs....which does not include classic movies in my movie world.

Perfect, Gams - you got it! That's what Clint says when he finally confronts the old man who organized Clint's near-lynching.
Way to go!!

Let's try this one. It's from a I Can't Believe I Watched The Whole Thing movie, and I can't help but watch the whole thing over and over - it's played on television a lot, and I always wonder why.
"Put... the bunny... back... in the box."

Pretty sure this is wrong, but could it be ...................
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Post by Phalon on Oct 4, 2008 5:50:08 GMT -6
You are right, Katina....you are wrong.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is not correct.
This movie is not animated, it's live action....lots of action. Though the cast is full of big name actors, it's plane to see the movie has an air of cheesiness.
Psst....those words in bold print are clues.

I'm wrong, right then, better have another go at it. Clues, I love clues, let's see could it be Taxi Driver? Runaway Train? .............. or possibly Airplane?

Nope, nope, nope.....(and you thought you got it, didn't you?). But you did mention the mode of transportation on which most of this movie takes place.
Another clue? Since you love them so much.
The cagey hero saves the day just in the nick of time.

You're right Lady P, thought I'd nailed that sucker good and proper but all I've done is end up with egg on my face. More clues, and yep you're right again, I love em. Just hope you're not trying to CON me and leave me dangling in thin AIR ................ummmm what could it be? If I'm wrong again I'm gonna throw the tantrum to end all tantrums.

Post by Phalon on Oct 8, 2008 7:21:49 GMT -6
No, no, no, Katina - you can hold off on the tantrums; you are right this time. ConAir was indeed the movie. I really am not sure why this is one of those can't-not-watch it movies. I suppose it's like a train wreck.....only on a plane; you don't want to, but can't help but look. Now, you can have your tantrum - it reeks of smashed pumpkin.

Yeah they're good [ now and then ] the type of film where you can switch off the old brain and just enjoy all the mindless mayhem, explosions and action. Had a sneaking suspicion I was about to cop that flying Pumpkin soon, thanks Lady P. Conversation between two guys .............. "I'm scared Poncho." *Expletive* You ain't afraid of no man. There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all gonna die. Right off I go in search of some poor unsuspecting soul that I can offload this pumpkin on ............... be afraid, be very afraid.

Oh man, kat, that's very intriguing! But I don't know it. How about a hint, please?
Dang, Gams. Couldn't you have told kat that it wasn't "Con Air"? I'd have like to have seen that tantrum!

Oh man, kat, that's very intriguing! But I don't know it. How about a hint, please? Hints you want, hints you shall receive Siren ............... Sci-Fi/action film, starred one of the biggest actors [ literally as well as figuratively ] of the period. Dang, Gams. Couldn't you have told kat that it wasn't "Con Air"? I'd have like to have seen that tantrum! No you wouldn't Siren, believe me.

Think I can manage that for you Siren, it was made somewhere between 1986 and 1988 ............... how's that, any help. The lead actor is now in politics, and Included in his team in the film are a former wrestler, a Native American and a screen writer.

"Predator"?

|
Post by katina2nd on Nov 3, 2008 19:41:04 GMT -6
Yep, "Predator" it is Siren, one of Arnies best IMO.
Been checking back through the other threads [ unsuccessfully ] to find a post about a film called "No Reservations" starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Aaron Eckhart and Abigail Breslin that I'm sure you recommended [ or am I dreaming? ]
Anyway caught it yesterday, minus the first ten or so minutes, and thoroughly enjoyed it, warm, funny, touching without being mawkish and good chemistry between the two leads.
Like a lot of films that have a child as one of the main characters it succeeds or fails on their performance, and Amy Breslin nailed it to perfection I thought .............. fine film, have to catch the start next time it airs.

I have not seen that film, kat. But my friend David did, and liked it as much as you did. I agree that Breslin is a good little actress.
These days, David is praising Angelina Jolie's latest, "Changeling". When I told him I avoided it because the plot sounded like a downer, he said it is less a story about the boy, and more of the story of a strong woman's determination. He says Angelina is very good in it.
What was the last movie I saw? "The Women"? Surely not. *pondering* Yes, I think so. Boy, it's been too long. Too much work, and not enough movies make Siren a hard-to-live-with creature.

Ummmm obviously I was dreaming then Siren, coulda sworn you wrote about it.
Don't see as many movies as I used to either, a bit picky I think.
"Burn After Reading" the latest Coen brothers film was the last one I saw, great cast and quite funny, can think of worse ways to fill in a couple of hours.
"Quantum of Solace" the new Bond flick, starts on the 20th so I'll be off to see that shortly, if it's near as good as the previous one I'll be a happy fella.

I am planning on making up for lost time, and seeing a couple of flicks this week - "Australia" (Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman) and "Twilight" (the teen vampire flick).
Okey doke: here's the next quote - actually, a conversation from a couple well-remembered for their sexy, snappy on-screen repartee':
She: Speaking of horses, I like to play them myself. But I like to see them work out a little first, see if they're front runners or come from behind, find out what their whole card is, what makes them run.
He: Find out mine?
She: I think so.
He: Go ahead.
She: I'd say you don't like to be rated. You like to get out in front, open up a little lead, take a little breather in the back stretch, and then come home free.
He: You don't like to be rated yourself.
She: I haven't met anyone yet that can do it. Any suggestions?
He: Well, I can't tell till I've seen you over a distance of ground. You've got a touch of class. But I don't know how far you can go.
She: A lot depends on who's in the saddle.
~~~~~~~~~
And if you really think they were talking about horse racing, you weren't paying attention to all those sparks flying!
Sorry for the "slight" delay Siren. It's not about horse racing? First thought was Bette Davis until I reread your hint "a couple well-remembered for their sexy, snappy on-screen repartee':" which makes me think it may be Bogie and Bacall? I am planning on making up for lost time, and seeing a couple of flicks this week - "Australia" (Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman) and "Twilight" (the teen vampire flick). Did you get to see Australia, and if so what did you think of it?
Oh, oh, oh! I know this one! Well, no I don't really, but I saw an old black and white movie this past winter, that I can't remember the name of, or who starred in it.....the one with the woman who was drunk in the beginning; she was driving the guy in a convertible. Yes, yes, that's the one.
Remember the scene at the horse track? The conversation Siren quoted is from that scene....from the movie I can't remember, starring the actors I can't remember.
At least I think so....(eye-roll), but then again, the conversation has nothing to do with horse racing.
Reckon you may have nailed it Lady P, if only you could recall who starred in whatever it was called. Think someone may have to give Siren a nudge don't you?
Sorry it took a colossal kick in the pants to get my attention here, gang.
It was indeed Bogey & Bacall, kat, in "The Big Sleep". What a great movie. If you get a chance, watch it and pay attention to Martha Vickers, who plays Bacall's crazy little sister. She was terrific in the film. In fact, legend has it that she was so good, some of her scenes were cut because she was stealing some of Bacall's thunder.
I will come back later, kat, and give you my review of "Australia". Nighty night! *yawn*
The movie you mentioned, Gams, with the couple in the convertible? That's "Notorious", starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman - one of my all-time favorite movies.
Aph is still in Florida, but I can answer this. Yes, that "Last Line" is from "Strangers on a Train." BTW, Kat, she LOVED that birthday present. And she thought it was hilarious that neither Ellie nor I could think of the name of the movie and had to ask for help.
