Wow. That's a different question... Sole occupant. Herb Garden. And, it depends on my mood - and the kind of ice cream. I only do chocolate, vanilla, or my favorite - orange scherbet. Okay, home made peach was pretty good - but I mean ice cream that I made. Any other ice cream and I'll pass. TMI? Probably so. Still, if it's one of the kinds of ice cream I like, that would be my choice.
Stamps: Only the "Forever" stamps or the other series of stamps (like Christmas) are more fun?

Sand or snow?

SNOW! love snow. never snows here but it always did back home so i love snow. i miss snow, too. loved getting a chance to see some this year when i went to visit gabs. that, and i never liked sand. sand always gets stuck in your shoes and you find little grains of it in them weeks later, which is annoying.
in relation to that: summer, or winter?

Just to catch up a little...
Sole occupant....unless you count the two on the bottom of my feet; then there are three.
Herb garden.
Ice cream or cake? Isn't that what they make birthdays for - so you don't have to choose? Since it's nowhere near my birthday, I'll say cake; I don't do ice-cream in winter. Ask the same question in summer, and my answer would probably be ice-cream.
Stamps: Hubs gets Forever stamps, cuz it's easier. I always ask for anything but the Forever stamps, just for variety - even if I'm ordering by mail, I put a little note in asking the postmaster to surprize me.
Sand or snow - this is like the ice-cream or cake question for me. I love living within walking distance to the beach - I love walking in the sand, digging my toes in, or shuffling my feet so that it makes that squeaking sound. I also love snow, and all that you can do in it - I'd never want to live anywhere that doesn't have an abundance of it. Since it's here now, I'll go with snow. In summer, it'd be sand.
Summer or winter - see above.
Speed boat or sailboat?

sailboat. it's so nice to be out on the water and be able to listen to the waves, without the hum of an engine. haven't been out recently, but it's also been down to 40 degrees around here.
taking a 3-day weekend, or going in on the holiday to get the extra pay?

Post by stepper on Jan 20, 2010 23:42:56 GMT -6
Good question Seeker...but I'm torn between the two. If I have to choose, I guess I'd say sand. If I could stay ome and just look at it, or go for a walk in it, then I might have chosen snow, but it's never just that. You have to drive in it, you have to shovel it, it makes it harder for the dog to find a good spot to take a dump, and it magically transports to your shorts where it melts without warming up. Yeah...I'm going with sand on this one.
Summer or winter. Again, it depends. But given my range of activity, summer. I'm not much on snow skiing, and you can only have so many snowball fights, or make snowpeople, before you start looking to move on to something else. Summer allows you more to do. Then again, my favorite day/time is Christmas Eve, so maybe it would be winter even if there's less to do.
Speedboat or sailboat. A speed boat is loads of fun! Speeding across open water is a blast! And sailing is more sedate, calming, reflective. The one that wins would depend on my mood at that moment - but right now - sailboat.
Three day weekend or work the holiday. Erma Bombeck wrote a wonderful piece before she died. In it she said that given the chance to change things, she would have eaten in the "good" room more often, she would have burnt the special candles, she would have savored more of the things she experienced, and generally, she would have crammed in more life instead of scratching out a living. When I was younger, I didn't think about life so much, nor how quickly it goes by. But her article has stuck with me since the day I first read it. She didn't have regrets, but she wished she had done some things differently. Her's was one of a very few written pieces that caught my attention and caused me to rethink my priorities. As much as I can use the extra cash, I take the holiday.
Right now as I type, Cuddles is snuggled on my shoulders, across the back of my neck. I have to lean my head a little forward for him to fit and be comfortable - he's my 16 year old cat. I'm not especially comfortable in this position right now - but he's 16 and since his breed normally lives only 8 to 12 years, the day is coming when he won't be there on my neck any more. When that sad day comes, I won't be saying that I wish I had let him do this more often. Just that I wish he could do it one more time. All this is at least partly attributable to the fact that I read that piece by Erma Bombeck, who got me thinking about priorities.
IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER – by Erma Bombeck I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren’t there for the day.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have talked less and listened more. You can’t learn anything with your mouth open.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth – lots of wisdom there!
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn’t show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
As with everything, don t hurry it over, enjoy the process
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, ‘Later. Now go get washed up for dinner.’ There would have been more ‘I love you’s’ More ‘I’m sorry’s.’
But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute.look at it and really see it . . live it and never give it back. STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!
Don’t worry about who doesn’t like you, who has more, or who’s doing what. Instead, let’s cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Pearl or gem?

Post by Phalon on Jan 22, 2010 5:08:38 GMT -6
You staying in the uncomfortable because-the-cat's-on-your-shoulder position made me smile, Stepper. I think anyone who lives with a cat has had a sore neck, a leg that's fallen asleep to the point of complete omg-I-can't-feel-my-leg-anymore!, or a stomach that feels like an anvil has been resting on it - all due to not wanting to disturb the cat.
And I like that Erma Bombeck essay - thanks for posting it. It's one that always seems to make the e-mail rounds, and I never get tired of rereading it because every once in a while, everyone needs a reminder of what's most important in life - living it!
I'm assuming the 'pictures without words' choice would come with an illustrator? I think I'd still go with 'words without pictures'.
I'd pick gem over pearl - doesn't have to be a precious gemstone, but I prefer color.
Winter or Summer Olympics?

Win more Olympics gold medals in your sport than anyone ever or win a Nobel Peace Prize?

Post by Awesome Aphrodite on Jan 23, 2010 6:02:56 GMT -6
I would rather win a Nobel Peace Prize. also, I lack any athletic ability, so the Olympics thing isn't in the realm of possibility. I suppose if I did something to help a buncha people or whatever the qualifications are, winning a Nobel Peace Prize might actually be possible. call out for dinner, or cook it yourself?

Hrm. When I was at home, I'd call out more. But now that I'm here, Ellie tends to make dinner every night. I can't cook. So... if I was home, call out. But since I'm not, I don't have to. On the subject of homemade food... Homemade Pizza, or Homemade Lasagna? (MMM.... now I'm hungry! )

This is going to be a long reply. I was thinking photography. I sort of thought you'd go for the "words" side based on that "Bard" thing. I have no real preference, but being a guy, I'm not especially knowledgeable about jewelry. I guess I'd pick the gem because I'd prefer the way it would interact with light. The "sparkly" attraction like in The Secret of NIMH. I think the Winter Olymics are more fun to watch - the ski jumpers and the boarders doing flips just seems more entertaining to me than the high board people jumping into a pool. Beach volleyball was entertaining, but I prefer Winter sports. OO! TG! You're letting me on my soap box again! Thanks... I'd prefer winning medals. There's absolutely no chance it will happen, but the Nobel prize no longer has value as far as I'm concerned. Here's why... There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an 'ulterior motive' ... She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids..) She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises... During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted. Recently Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize... She was not selected. Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming. This was soon followed by giving Obama a Nobel prize for accomplishing nothing. Sigh. I'm sure the awards mattered once, but not any more. Call out or cook? I think cook. Actually, if TG or Phalon was cooking at the call out place I might consider it. Since that's not an option, I'll cook it myself. Sorry Gabrielle...you aren't going to like my answer. Is neither an option? I don't like either one. Okay...I can eat pizza, but I don't like cooked tomatoes. Stay in one place, or make your living in a job that requires travel all the time...like trucking?

This is going to be a long reply. heh, nothing wrong with long replies. i don't do them much myself, but there's nothing wrong with them. though i must say i've never met anyone who doesn't like pizza OR lasagna. for that one, i'd pick lasagna, cuz aph makes the best. for the stay in one place or not thing.... stay in one place. though i would like to move back home before too long, cuz i'm starting to feel like i'm dropping anchor here and i don't like that cuz i hate this state. anywho. seeing a musical/play live, or buying the dvd to watch at home?

though i must say i've never met anyone who doesn't like pizza OR lasagna. It's even worse. I don't like spaghetti either. Well, not with tomato sauce. But I'll put butter on it and that's okay. Sorry about that. There must be something to do worth while. Seeing a musical/play live! It's got a very different feel to it. At home you lose the atmosphere - it's too familiar. Good question. Garage sale shopping or new from the store?

Post by Phalon on Jan 24, 2010 8:53:02 GMT -6
I like the long posts. They spark thought, conversation, and I always learn something - not only about the person posting, (such as Stepper not liking lasagna or pizza - ever try "blonde" or "white" pizza, Stepper?), but also interesting stories such as Irena's. What an amazing and noble feat for one woman to acomplish!
What I would really love to do is collaborate with LX, and write the captions beneath her quirky little drawings...like the one she titled "Canned Peas" which was of a bunch of cartoon peas standing in an unemployment line.
Call out for dinner, or cook it myself? It's mostly a time thing - if there's no time to cook, we'll call out. In our small town though, there isn't a lot of choice where to call, so I'll stick with cooking at home.
Homemade pizza, or homemade lasagna? I love them both, but we have pizza often; I'll go with lasagna because it's a rarity. I used to make a killer lasagna. Actually, it never killed 'er or even maimed 'er, but it was damned good. Time consuming though, so I rarely make it any more.
Stay in one place, or in a job that requires travel? Stay in one place - I love where I live and I'd hate to be away from my home and family all the time.
Seeing a musical/play live, or buying the dvd to watch at home? Seeing it live for the same reasons as Stepper.
Garage sale shopping or new from the store? Hhmmm...I love garage sales, but rarely end up buying anything. Old books in good condition (especially dictionaries), pottery, solid wood furniture and old doors are things I look for at garage sales. Rarely clothing, although I've got a few good finds for nearly nothing that I can wear to work; a couple of dollars for a pair of jeans that get trashed in a season is infinitely better than paying over $30 for a new pair. But mostly, I buy new.
Collecting things or one is enough?

*Gasp*, Stepper, you don't like PIZZA? For SHAME! Really though, you oughta try white pizza, it's pizza with a white sauce rather than tomato sauce.
See a play LIVE! It's so awesome! EXPENSIVE, but that just means it's a rarity, which makes it even more awesome when you can actually pull it off.
Garage sale or bought new... gonna pull a Stepper on this one. Neither. Thrift store. Used stuff, but it's also been cleaned and sanitized, so you know you won't be getting something that's completely disgusting.
Heh. Collecting things. I collect books, video games, cats (I have 5!), stuffed animals.... yeeeeeaaah. Ellie calls me weird, but she has this gameboy game, Pokemon, and she's "collected" all 250 different kinds of them. *Rolls eyes*
Don't know if anyone on here watches these shows, but... CSI, or Bones?

Plum or Apricot?

|
|
Post by Phalon on Jan 25, 2010 6:02:31 GMT -6
Hhmmm...are we talking bras or hair? I've got a plum-colored bra; it's my favorite. Scrappy claims her hair is the color of apricots, but that may be just what the bottle says. HA! I can say that because she's computer-less, and probably won't read in here when she's back on-line.
Colors - I like plum better. Smell - I prefer apricot. If we're talking taste, I'll choose a plum before an apricot.
Health-nut, or fast food drive-thru?

hm. not really either. the food i cook can hardly be called the most healthy... it just tastes good and fills three people up. although we do go to fast-food places if i don't feel well enough to cook or if there's no food in the house. i'm really fond of taco bell, myself. mmmm.... taco bell. *ahem*

Heh, funny, cuz I don't either. But I just watched Rent so I had the WINE AND BEER scene in my head. Steak or Burger? Neither, I'm a semi-vegetarian. (Meaning I don't eat red meat or pork.) Sweet potatoes, or regular potatoes?

Regular potatoes. (My meat isn't red when I eat it. )
green peas or green beans?

Always pop, which Hubs thinks is funny because he never heard it called that before he met me. Then again, he's from the South where everything is a Coke, even if it's Pepsi.
Beer; wine usually gives me a splitting headache.
Burger with the works.
Regular potatoes most often. Baked sweet potatoes with butter only, (don't like them with all that brown sugar and marshmallow goop in them)
Fresh, raw green peas.
Green salad or fruit salad?

Post by quettalee on Jan 26, 2010 0:07:19 GMT -6
Let's see, without looking back to see what I've missed...
Plums, the color and the taste.
Usually don't get fully dressed on my off days, which means no bra and glasses instead of contacts.
Beer.
Healthy eating for me, except I do love me some Taco Hell, as well...cheesy bean and rice burritos and fresco bean burritos.
Sweet potatoes, and like Phalon, only butter and sea salt and pepper, or sliced, seasoned with olive oil, sea salt and rosemary and roasted in the oven.
No burgers or steak for me unless it's a veggie burger. I will eat a little tuna or wild-caught salmon on occasion...which makes me technically, a "pescetarian".
Facebook, green salad, green peas, and "soda"!
Green olives or black olives?
